Long, Long drive day of over 600 miles ahead! We left the KOA before 8 am and made our way to Highway 2. The Going to the Sun Road is quicker than Highway 2 but no vehicles longer than 21 feet are allowed on the road. To get our 60′ rig through G to S road, we would have to have wings, a can of Crisco to grease the sides, and many prayers. The first 90 minutes got us over the mountain driving and it was like a light switch had been flipped- just that quick we were out of the Rockies and into the flat country of Montana. We spent the next 500+ miles driving Highway 2 across the state of Montana- flat and uneventful is great for driving an RV but not much for scenery. We saw lots of fields, lots of sky (big sky at that) and umpteen number of hay bales through the day. L came
up with a good system for rotating the kids from 30 minutes of reading to 30 minutes of electronic time throughout the day to keep a change of pace and at one of the rest area stops they ran laps around the rv. L was feeling the pain of her cowgirl trail ride yesterday and popping Advil like they were Pez! She has forbidden anyone from teasing her until they experience a two hour trail ride too! She was back asleep within an hour of leaving the KOA for a two hour nap. We were all tired and even G decided to take a nap and let L drive for two hours that afternoon- her first driving of the trip. We rolled into Medora, ND just before 8 pm and made an early night of it. On to Theodore Roosevelt NP tomorrow!
