Grand Junction, CO

We left the Central City area this morning.  Leaving we went down the steepest road the RV has probably been on.  We never left 2nd gear and just crawled our way down back to downtown Central City.  I had seen a secondary road that might be a good way to get back to I-70 and thankfully rather than just take it, I asked the KOA manager about the road before leaving.  He said it was called “O-My-God-Road” and he said I wanted no part of that road.  At first I thought he was kidding and I checked it out on the internet and he was right.  The OMG Road is apparently very scenic but includes 12% grades, no guardrails and steep winding dirt roads.  Glad we looked before we leaped on that one.

The drive from Central City to Grand Junction was several hundred miles.  The grades on I-70 were steep at times and we pulled over several times to avoid the RV from overheating.  We pulled into Grand Junction late afternoon for our home for the next two nights, the Grand Junction KOA.  I took the kids to the pool and both Victoria and Thomas swam and played until they were worn out.  The water surprised us by how cold it was since when we arrived late afternoon, the temperature was mid-90’s.  The campground had a nice game room with pool table, ping pong and air hockey.  They also had a small putt-putt course and the great thing is all of the things were free.  Lindsay and I wrapped up some work items that night and went to bed looking forward to exploring the area tomorrow.
