Rest and Zion

Posted by on July 16, 2014

We decided today would be a good day to just take it easy for the most part.  We slept in a good bit and then went back into St. George to the Dicks Sporting Goods just to browse around and eat lunch nearby. After getting back to the campground, Thomas, Victoria and I played at the pool and the game room for several hours.  I was wanting to go back to Zion NP again since I had enjoyed it so much the evening before but neither Victoria nor Thomas much wanted to go.  Lindsay and I decided it would be a great way for us to get away for several hours for a mini date night.  We left the camper just after 5pm and did an almost exact repeat of the evening I had last night. However, after reaching Zion NP, we decided to do the scenic drive (the Zion Mt Carmel Highway) first and then take the shuttle to the top for the hike.  The previous night it had rained heavily but tonight there was an abundance of mule deer out and about- there were a group of 6-8 just sitting and milling about under the same big Cottonwood tree we had eaten lunch under at the Zion Lodge.  We enjoyed a late evening stroll up the Riverside Trail hiking along the Virgin River.  We arrived back down to the visitor center right at sunset.   We had a nice dinner at a local Springdale restaurant on the way home called Blondie’s- excellent Elk burgers and Philly sandwiches if I do say so.  We made it back to Hurricane around 10:30pm and the kids still had the camper in one piece!  A great relaxing day.
