Long Drive Day (AR, MS, TN, AL, GA)

Posted by on July 30, 2014

We left early this morning knowing we had a long drive day ahead.  We went over 700 miles over the next 14 hours crossing through 5 states and cities such as Little Rock, Memphis, Tupelo, Birmingham, and Atlanta before calling it a day just outside of Augusta, GA at a nice rest area off of I-20.  The day was fairly uneventful and was all smooth highway driving. (and lots of it!)

This year we had several new gear items that we used that stood out in our hot weather travels:  We particularly enjoyed a product from the Frog Togg company called The Chilly Pads.  They are made from a hyper-evaporative material that when wet cools your body done in hot weather.  We used them around our necks (and down our shirts) to cool us down on long hikes or in hot canyons.  We also discovered a company called Outdoor Research (OR).  The OR products are not cheap but we all used the sun hats and sun shirts and they worked very well.  Many of their items come with a lifetime warranty.

Tomorrow we make the final push for home!
