Upward and Onward!

Posted by on July 6, 2016

We are very much looking forward to our big trip this summer after not having been able to go last summer in 2015! Weeks of planning and tying up loose ends at home came to their end today as we set off from Charleston right at 6pm (only 3 hours later than planned)! Our timeline for this summer’s trip is only 22 days instead of the 30 days we were able to take in previous summers, so we know we have to pack a lot into a short time! We made the decision for this year’s trip to go the Atlantic Canada Provinces and to the state of Maine. As I loaded the last items in to the camper in late afternoon Charleston temps of high 90’s with much humidity, I smiled a little on the inside(while sweating on the outside) knowing that in a few short days we would be in cooler weather. No sooner were we to the end of the street in our subdivision, than the wind started to blow ferociously and the rain pelted us- better we thought now than while loading the camper. We slowly made our way down I-26 and I-95N until the weather passed. We made good time after the storm and pulled into the Virginia Welcome center on I-95 just after 12:30am after driving through South Carolina and North Carolina. As I checked the Explorer as we got ready for bed, I noticed that the 2’ long tailpipe had fallen off of the camper unnoticed somewhere in our previous 6 hours of driving. Part of the excitement of cross country travel I guess!
