Santa Barbara

Posted by on June 25, 2017

We left Malibu this morning and moved the RV up the coast on Hwy 1 through Oxnard and Ventura to our home for the next few days in Santa Barbara.  Our campground was right next to the highway.  After setting up, we headed out for a drive north along the Santa Barbara coastline.  We stopped at Leadbetter Beach and played soccer and paddleball while enjoying the sunny weather and walked on the beach watching a parasailer.  Thomas got brave and decided to go in the surf and found out it was as we thought- COLD!  We then drove a short distance to Stearns Wharf.  You can drive out on the historic wharf and we did and parked and strolled around looking at shops and vendors.  We bought some delicious fudge and salt water taffy.  We drove up very nice State Street area and had a nice dinner at Benchmark Eatery.  We had heard that the ice cream at McConnell Ice Cream is some of the best.  Many other people must have heard the same thing because the line snaked out the door and down the sidewalk.  It was a long enough wait for Thomas to go into an adjacent shop and have a white sweatshirt screen-printed with the word CALI on it- our bet is he will have it filthy and stained before the night ends!  We decided to wait out the line and enjoyed some delicious ice cream!  We all really like Santa Barbara- particularly Lindsay as she is already talking of a return visit.  Tomorrow we are off to explore the Channel Islands.
